“NEW” PCP COLLEGE AWARDS: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

PCP 2010 Exemplar Awards on Excellence

The PCP Awards Committee, under the People and Culture Pillar, is given the task to build on the strengths of the existing annual PCP College Awards. As part of that task, the committee would like to introduce to you some of the changes in the Awards process and to solicit your help in disseminating this call for nominations.

The PCP EXEMPLARS, the new name for the annual College Awards, signals both continuity and change.

Peer acceptance was an important part of the existing awards process through the involvement of the PCP Chapters and Societies in choosing the PCP Awardees. This year we hope to involve the individual PCP member (Fellow, Diplomate or Affiliate) early in the nomination/evaluation process. This is where YOU come in. As a representative of your PCP Chapter and Society, we ask your help to disseminate this information to your Chapter or Society members.

The nomination/evaluation process is now simplified for the nominator. A PCP member AS AN INDIVIDUAL may now NOMINATE her/his choice for ANY, ALL, or NONE of the categories of the PCP Exemplars. If listed as a reference by a nominee or evaluator, s/he may also be asked to EVALUATE a nominee. The same nomination/evaluation form will be used during this stage. It will initially be available in print by email, fax or snail mail on request. We are working on making it available as an interactive web survey.

We hope to finish this stage on or before 12 March 2010.

NOW, for the changes! There are new names, new categories and a new Committee of Peers. The PCP Exemplars in Clinical Practice, in Clinical Education and in Clinical Research are the new names for the existing Distinguished Internist, the Distinguished Teacher and the Distinguished Researcher Awards, respectively. Two new awards will be introduced: the PCP Exemplar in Healthcare Advocacy, and  in Community Development.

There will be NO CVs or nomination packets to accomplish during the nomination/evaluation stage.  A Committee of Peers will then choose a proposed awardee from a short list of nominees. At THAT time, the nominee and/or nominator may be asked for documentation on the person and accomplishments of the nominee. The Committee of Peers will be explained further to the PCP Chapters/Societies in a separate communication.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment.

Very truly yours,

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
