ATTENTION!!! NEW !!!
What is the SAM On-Line? These are on-line progressive self-assessment modules on the top medical diseases in the Philippines to be used by internal medicine residents-in-training to assess and increase their knowledge on these diseases.
Who can use the SAM? ALL second and third year internal medicine residents-in-training in PCP-accredited training programs who are members of the PCP.
We would like to request that second and third year internal medicine residents take the SAM On-line since this is an educational aid and gauge of their cognitive knowledge on the top medical diseases in the Philippines. However, since this facility is available only to members of the College, we encourage non-member second and third year residents to apply for Affiliate Membership. Please visit the PCP website for instructions on how to become a member.
What are the benefits of taking the SAM? The IM resident (1) will be able to assess his/her level of knowledge gained in internal medicine and (2) will be assisted by his/her training program and by the module in increasing his/her knowledge on his/her deficient cognitive fields
How do I access the SAM? It’s easy!
- All users should get their username and password through their Training Officers or through the main PCP office.
- Just log on to http://www.pcp.org.ph/sam.
- Sign in with your (PCP assigned) username and password.
- Click on the available courses, for example : Tuberculosis (Placement).
- Please read carefully the description and directions.
- Click on “Attempt quiz now” button to proceed to the quiz proper.
- Be sure to answer all questions before you click the “Save and Submit” button. Only then will your score, the correct answers and references will be revealed.
- You are allowed only one attempt to take the quiz. Should you wish to review your answers, you may do so at a later date by logging in again and clicking on your score.
- The first part of the SAM module is the Tuberculosis (Placement) and will be available on-line from October 15 - November 30, 2010. The Placement part is about the Pathogenesis, Pathology and Epidemiology of Tuberculosis. Once you have mastered this part through reading more on the topic and discussing this with your peers and Training Officer, you will be ready to take the PROGRESS Part of the TUBERCULOSIS SAM.
- Please take the opportunity to discuss the questions and answers with your Training Officer.
- The next part of the Tuberculosis SAM-Online is the Progress Part which will be available by November 3, 2010. The Placement Part has to be answered before you can move on to the Progress Part.
The SAM On-line is NOT…
An examination. It is a formative learning tool that is based on the resident’s own drive to learn more. A PCP requirement for promotion.
What is the role of the Training Program and Training Officer?
* The role of the training program and faculty staff will be to further discuss with the resident the topics covered by the SAM On-line and correct the misconceptions on the topic as evidenced by the incorrect answers of the resident. Once this has been done, then the resident will be ready to move on to the next part of the SAM On-line.
* The Training Officer will also be in charge of ensuring that the resident gets his/her USERNAME and PASSWORD. These will be given to the Training Officer by the PCP Secretariat.
